ANZ Banking Group, a long-standing partner going on two decades, sought a tailored nine-month blended program for frontline leaders in its Retail Lending division. These leaders face complex demands, balancing process, systems, reporting, safety, risk, customer experience and ongoing change, all while meeting strict behavioural expectations within their operating rhythm.
We applied a Human-Centred Design approach to shape a program that addressed these challenges. Weekly accountabilities were built into the nine-month structure, supported by bespoke content aligned to ANZ’s systems and processes. Digital modules focused on core leadership capabilities complemented three workshops spaced throughout the program, enabling participants to consolidate learning, build confidence and embed new behaviours.
Launched in 2021, the program began during a period of disruption, requiring a swift pivot to virtual delivery and recalibrated timelines for digital modules. It has since evolved into a flexible hybrid model, combining face-to-face sessions with virtual cohorts to suit operational needs. Each year, 7–10 cohorts run successfully, with more than 330 leaders completing the experience and demand continuing to exceed capacity. Eighteen months in, we conducted a review to align with organisational changes, ensuring the program remained contemporary and informed by the latest research.
The program is highly regarded across ANZ, consistently attracting a waitlist for new cohorts. It has earned a strong reputation for equipping leaders to adapt quickly and confidently in their roles, reinforcing its value as a cornerstone of leadership development within the bank.
