Leadership

Inspire Program

The Challenge

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was undergoing a period of significant change, requiring its leaders to adapt and evolve to meet new organisational demands. While technical skills were strong, there was a need to strengthen leadership capability, foster authenticity, and create a culture of empathy and collaboration. Many leaders recognised the difference between managing and truly leading, and the challenge was to equip them with the tools and mindset to inspire their teams and contribute meaningfully to the broader business strategy.

The Solution

To address these needs, MCEC introduced Inspire, a leadership development program designed to build authentic, empathetic, and effective leaders. The program focused on practical tools and frameworks aimed at helping leaders improve communication, enhance active listening, and develop behaviours that create psychological safety and trust within teams. The overarching goal was to empower leaders to inspire others and drive positive cultural change.

The Implementation

The program combined interactive workshops, reflective exercises, and practical application of leadership models in day-to-day operations. Participants explored concepts such as active listening, vulnerability, and the impact of their behaviours on team dynamics. Leaders were encouraged to move away from authoritative styles and adopt approaches that enable team members to grow and succeed. The program also emphasised aligning individual purpose with organisational goals, reinforcing the idea that every leader plays a critical role in shaping culture and delivering strategic outcomes.

The Results

The Inspire program delivered significant shifts in leadership behaviour and mindset. Leaders reported greater self-awareness and a stronger commitment to creating cohesive, safe environments for their teams. Active listening and emotional intelligence became core practices, fostering trust and engagement. Participants expressed a clear understanding of the difference between being a boss and being a leader, and many set personal goals to inspire others and share their learnings across the organisation. The program helped leaders recognise their collective impact on MCEC’s overarching strategy, creating a culture where authenticity, empathy, and collaboration drive success.

This video showcases the impact of working with leaders who subsequently landed in their role – mainly having been a highly successful individual contributor.
It highlights the value of the journey they have undertaken with blended learning, the support of a cohort over several months and ultimately, the growth that is evident as a result.
We see their confidence grow and the building of conviction develop shaping the way they want to show up as a leader.
